6 reasons to take an Alaska cruise on the Norwegian Joy
Originally designed for the Asian market, the Norwegian Joy has undergone an impressive $60 million dollar “westernized” renovation and is set to take the Alaska cruising market by storm. The Norwegian Joy will be joining its sister ship, the Norwegian Bliss, in Seattle for the 2019 Alaska cruise season and will be departing on Saturday’s for a weeklong inside passage of the final frontier. Whether you’re a millennial, active family or boomer there is something for everyone on this ship. Here’s a shortlist of the highlights that make this ship as majestic as the destination.
1. Panoramic views of the Pacific Northwest
Picture yourself sipping your favorite cocktail, or specialty Starbucks beverage as you relax on a white leather chaise lounge watching the coastal mountain range pass you by. The Norwegian Joy features a two-story Observation Lounge located on deck 15 at the front (bow) of the ship. This venue is a must for those that want to take in the pacific northwest grandeur without having to go outside. With casual dining options available too, it may be hard to leave, but there’s so much more to do so plan your time accordingly.
2. Experience go-karting while at sea
How many times have you embraced your inner Ricky Bobby and raced on a go-kart while at sea? If you answered never, you’re not alone but don’t worry cruisers on Norwegian Joy will have the chance to revel the occasion. Spanning two decks, this activity helps you channel your inner speed demon as you try and outpace your fellow racers. At $15 USD per race you may want to consider the unlimited day or week passes, because once you try it you’re going to want to race again!
3. Norwegian Joy Dining options for all tastes and desires
Dining aboard the Norwegian Joy is designed to appease both the foodie and the comfort food lover. For a more intimate main dining experience visit Savor or Taste contrast to the larger but classically decorated Manhattan Room overlooking the wake of the ship. In addition to the complimentary dining there is no shortage of specialty dining options available at reasonable costs. These elevated dining experiences range from a Teppanyaki dinner-and-a-show to a classic American Diner renowned for their fried chicken, or Cagney’s traditional steakhouse to the Q’s savory Texas BBQ.
4. Endless entertainment
Entertainment on Norwegian Joy is guaranteed. If you’re into Broadway musicals or just love the 80s, be sure to reserve your spot to see Footloose and kick off those Sunday shoes! For a more classic evening check out The Beatles tribute band at the carbon copy Cavern Club. You can also brave the front row of a comedy act at The Social. For the night owls check out The District Brew House featuring 24 craft beers or dance the evening away when The Social transforms into a night club.
5. Venture into the 7th Dimension
The Galaxy Pavilion is a one of kind at sea and will satisfy both video game junkie and technology newbie. Take a break from reality and dive into this virtual candy store of entertainment. Throw on a pair 3D glasses and battle zombies or vengeful pirates during Dark Ride 7D! In addition, try out hang gliding for the first time or stimulate your senses in a cutting-edge simulator Formula One racecourse. Don’t worry about throwing endless quarters into these machines, because all this and more can be experienced for the nominal entry fee of $29 USD.
6. The Haven treatment
If you have the budget be sure to consider the perks of The Haven staterooms located at the top of the ship. The Haven cabins feature 24-hour butler service, concierge service, private sundecks, a private Observation Lounge and more. Despite being a large ship, the Norwegian Joy will feel like you are on a boutique cruise ship as you witness the raw wilderness of the Alaskan frontier.
These are just some of the highlights and we haven’t even discussed Laser Tag, The Mandara Spa & Salon, or the Aqua Park featuring a double loop waterslide that jets out over this side of the ship! Also, if traveling with kids, the Splash Academy is a must. Here, kids can forge international relationships and lasting memories while parents get some “me time”.
There are many other reasons to book your Alaska cruise on the Norwegian Joy, but hopefully this wets your appetite to explore more of the unique features this ship has to offer. Be sure to check out Norwegian’s latest offers which feature Free Drinks, Free Specialty dining options and more.
