National Parks Adventure: Antelope Canyon in 360 video

What better way to celebrate the Centennial of the U.S. National Park Service than with a good old fashioned road trip. The wife and I decided that we should head to Arizona for six days and explore Sedona, the Grand Canyon, and Antelope Canyon as a way of honoring the sheer beauty of our nation’s parks. While we had been to the Grand Canyon before and were excited to discover Sedona for the first time, our hearts skipped a beat when we finally decided to make a side trip the Antelope Canyon.

Antelope Canyon gained its recent notoriety after a photo taken in the canyon sold for over six and a half million dollars. Photographer Peter Lik’s black and white print titled “Phantom” depicts a beam of light slashing through one of the canyon’s many caverns.  The contrast of shades and textures can leave one mesmerized and questioning how a place so beautiful even exists.

Wanting to find out the answer for ourselves, we booked a day trip to Lower Antelope Canyon. It is a destination that Tawny and I had dreamed of visiting for years but always seemed to overlook. It wasn’t until a friend of ours showed us photos from her recent trip that we decided we had to see the canyon for ourselves. The rainwater-sculpted walls of the canyon twist and curve into a maze of orange, red, and sometimes purple hues. Wanting to share the magic of the canyon with you, we filmed parts of our tour in 360° video.
