6 Best places to travel in June

Winter has exhaled its final frosty breath in the northern hemisphere and those vacation days are burning a hole in your metaphorical pocket. There is no better way to pay homage to the new season than with a June vacation. Whether you’re prepared to embrace warm temperatures or already missing chilly temps, an ideal destination awaits. We have assembled some of the best places to travel in June to spark ideas about your next summer vacation.

Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone is one of the best places to truly unplug with your entire family. The park spans more than 2 million acres and has hundreds of hiking trails. When you head to Yellowstone in June, the temperatures can be a bit surprising. Believe it or not, early in the month you may still see some snow flurries at higher elevations. By month’s end, however, the temperatures are more predictably summer-like. Set out on a hike from the West Entrance or Mammoth Hot Springs to enjoy lovely floral blooms and lots of wildlife—just make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Honolulu, Hawaii

It’s never the wrong time to explore your inner Aloha spirit, but June is an especially good time to visit Hawaii’s capital city. Aside from relaxing with your family on the beach and learning a thing or two about hula dancing, you can enjoy some of the finest summer offerings this time of year. Take a drive out to the Dole Plantation, about 25 miles from Honolulu, and see where some of the world’s best pineapples originate. During the second week of June, explore the Pan Pacific Festival, which celebrates local culture with parades, hula performances, and an arts showcase.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

June is autumn in Buenos Aires, so this is a good destination for the solo traveler looking to escape sweltering summer heat. While temperatures may be in the 60s during the day, evenings become chilly, so pack accordingly. Cultural connoisseurs will

feel right at home at the Festival Ciudad Emergente (Emerging City), where underground art and music are put on full display. DJs, art exhibits, and bands from around the world participate in this yearly event. Of course, tango lessons are another good way to make friends in this lively city. Vacation packages to Buenos Aires make it easier to travel to this spicy city on a budget.

Viewfinder Tip: Adults and children can march in the Coney Island Mermaid Parade on June 20, 2015 for $15-25.

New York, New York

By June, the snow blanketing NYC will be long gone, and travelers can revel in the green landscape of Central Park or opt to walk their favorite borough instead of taking a taxi. In the city that never sleeps, even solo travelers can find plenty to do. Near the end of the month, the Coney Island Mermaid Parade takes to the streets. The largest art parade in the nation, you are invited to come watch hundreds of artists celebrate their creative spirit. Other June events in the Big Apple include NYC’s Pride Week and Taste of Times Square.

Santiago, Chile

Temperatures are steadily dropping during the month of June in this part of the world, making flights to Santiago the ideal start to a wonderful couples retreat. Temperatures are warm enough to be comfortable, but cool enough in the evenings to warrant a romantic nightcap with warm beverages. The Chilean Wine Country is a good place to start your vacation; the area is thriving and boasts a bounty of remarkable tasting rooms. Culture lovers will want to experience We Tripantu celebrations, which take place near the end of the month. The festivities happen around the time of the winter solstice, and serve as a New Year milestone for local indigenous people.

Lisbon, Portugal

June falls within the high season in Lisbon, so you won’t be the only tourist in town if you choose this as your getaway destination. Temperatures often soar above 80 degrees, however, making the coastal city a good June locale for beach combers. While you’re visiting, check out the Lisbon Oceanarium, the largest indoor aquarium in Europe, or celebrate the Feast of St. Anthony by taste testing local sardines and then dancing late into the night.
